Many people choose to practice meditation to chase a feeling of bliss, or to escape a discomfort in their lives. However, neither of those options is helpful.

Instead of pushing and pulling, it’s really about saying YES to the present moment without trying to fix, manage or control it. The aim is to be relaxed, yet aware. The best way to describe it is to imagine you are watching a movie of your thoughts, stories, or emotions. You’re not the actor in the movie; you are aiming to be the non-judgmental viewer.

That means you also need to allow and accept negative feelings such as anger, sadness, or frustration (even if just for a few moments). It might feel scary at first, but when you say HELLO to the emotional tension in the body with kind curiosity, it can often feel a little easier. You may notice your body soften naturally after taking a slow breath and noticing what happens BEFORE you react.

It’s really just about being kinder to yourself (which can be a brand new experience for you!)

In this video, I’ll guide you through a two-minute HELLO meditation. View this practice as an experiment. I’m going to ask you a few simple questions to help you investigate, so be prepared for some self inquiry. But don’t worry, you don’t have to answer out loud! 😉

Find a comfy space (like a sofa or chair) where you can relax and won’t be disturbed for the next few minutes. Now, let’s begin!

Thank you for meditating with me!

I’d love to hear in the comments below how was that for you? How did it feel saying ‘hello’ to what emotions and feeling are here instead of pushing it away?
Maybe some parts are challenging, maybe some brought ease?
